We love working with Exposed Aggregate, the results and feedback have been very positive also. But what is the real difference between normal Concrete and Exposed Aggregate?
Exposed Aggregate VS. Normal Concrete.
Normal Concrete
Normal Concrete is basically a powder mixed with sand and lime and poured into form-work that has steel reinforcement mesh (Rio) to inhibit cracking and warping.
Exposed Aggregate
Exposed Aggregate partly uses the same concrete mix. However, the mix also includes and range of different sized, type and coloured crushed stones that ramatically add to the density and strength of the concrete project.
Once the Exposed Aggregate is poured, the crushed stones can then be exposed on the top. This creates a beautiful natural stone texture that can be tailored to the specific colour scheme of your landscaping or home.
Exposed Aggregate also produces a lovely natural stone texture that is just perfect for public pathways that encounter high numbers of human traffic … year after year after year.
The natural stone works in two ways. Since the density of the natural stones on the top are greater than that of normal concrete mix, they will last longer and compared to normal concrete they are not made from powder and sand – they are rock hard.
Secondly, right through the mix are all of the crushed stones, they make the mix much more dense and work as a binding formation with the concrete mix. This produces a very fine matrix of crushed natural stones and normal Concrete mix.
This Matrix acts like the steel reinforcement used in normal concrete. The crushed natural stones interweave in the cement mix creating a natural stone mesh far denser than the normal concrete and steel reinforcement.
Exposed Aggregate Concrete can be used for pathways, driveways, garden curbing, garden walls … Anything that you can use to create with normal concrete you can create with Exposed Aggregate.
